BA (Hons) International Business with Spanish, 2016

Caroline graduated Regent’s with a BA (Hons) International Business with Spanish. One particular project in the Ecuadorian banana industry sparked a curiosity in ecology and the social and political impact of agriculture on the environment. Caroline’s Spanish tutors ‘inspired a lot of interest’ in these areas, and this led to consecutive master’s degrees in intercultural communications and environmentalism. Caroline is now the Project Lead in Plastics for Greenpeace Israel.

Working remotely from COVID-19 lockdown in Germany, Caroline says that plastics are a Greenpeace global priority. With the proliferation of pandemic-related plastic waste in the oceans, as well as the rapid increase of microplastics in our water, food and air, Caroline is concerned the urgent environmental and climatic challenges of plastic have fallen off the agenda.

While Caroline’s professional journey has just started, she attributes her early career success in a sector she is passionate about to her internships and jobs she has taken, which have helped her ‘test the waters and push boundaries.’

Working in HR in Dubai helped Caroline both realise her passion as well as the importance of environmentalism. She admits it’s a cliché, but ‘it’s about the journey’ and while ‘there will be tears along the way, the “aha” moment will come.’

Regent’s provided Caroline with an ‘essential foundation’ of transferable skills that she deploys today in working to meet the biggest environmental challenges facing the world today.

Some of her highlights include her Regent’s study period abroad in Sydney and learning Spanish – her sixth language so far.

Her advice to anyone searching for their career path is to ‘harness your interests and make yourself an expert. Read, learn more, stay up to date, and stay engaged.’
