Pre-Sessional Course overview

This course is designed for students who currently hold an offer for a course at Regent's and is available at various lengths, depending on your English level and the requirements of your course.

It's perfect for you if you:

  • Are looking for an overview of academic culture in the UK
  • Hold an offer for a degree programme at Regent’s University London
  • Want to develop your general and academic English
  • Want to explore different types of academic assessment
  • Want a flexible course, tailored to your individual needs and goals
  • Are interested in joining extra-curricular activities provided by Regent’s*
  • Want to use the University’s facilities – library, study areas, café

If you’re with us for longer than 12 weeks, you’ll start with Intensive English classes at your level (A2-C2) and, in the last 12 weeks, you’ll combine General English in the mornings with Academic English and REPT (Regent’s English Proficiency Test) exam preparation in the afternoons.

You’ll take two mock exams throughout your time with us and one final exam in your last week. Upon successful completion, you can progress directly to your chosen course, provided you’ve met the entry requirements.

Teaching and assessment

Practical learning

To prepare you for a degree level course at Regent’s (or another English-speaking university) this course covers:

  • Academic reading, writing listening and speaking
  • Study skills, note-taking, presentation skills

Classes are practical, fun and engaging with a focus on task-based activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving and an understanding of British culture.

You’ll do much more than complete worksheets: you’ll practise your presentation skills, learn to write professional and personal emails and talk to classmates about topics relevant to you.

Outside the classroom, our weekly Conversation Club offers the chance to improve your fluency   and boost your confidence by mixing with other students.

Plus, informal class trips take you on walking tours to London’s top sights, like the River Thames, where you’ll test your language skills through mini challenges as you explore the city.

Personal support

You’ll learn in a supportive, personalised environment where staff and students get to know each other by name.

All students take a placement test on their first day, followed by regular progress tests. Staff will give continuous feedback and regular one-to-one tutorials are available.
