FAQs: Regent's School of English

At Regent's School of English we accept students who are 16 years old and over. Your classmates are likely to be secondary and university students or professionals whose main aim is to improve English skills, so you are surrounded by like-minded people going through a language learning journey just like yourself.

If you're interested in learning English at Regent’s:

1. Click ‘book now’ and submit a course booking form together with a copy of your passport and your photo for the student ID card
2. Once we've received your booking form, you'll be invited to schedule an introductory interview so we can assess your level. We will also ask you if you require accommodation and a transfer (taxi) from the airport
3. Once we've confirmed we have a place for you on your chosen course (and accommodation, if applicable), you'll receive an online payment link
4. Once you've made your payment, we'll issue a course acceptance letter and secure your place

Please note your place on the course is not guaranteed until a full payment has been received.

We advise to wait for a minimum of 2 months before applying for a new visa. This is to protect you from a potential visa refusal. 

Once you've submitted your course booking form, we'll invite you to schedule an online introductory interview so we can assess your level of English. 

During the interview, you'll be asked some questions about yourself (for example, your background and previous studies) and why you would like to do an English language course at Regent's.

We'll also answer your questions about our university and courses, tell you what your English language level is, and confirm if you've chosen the best course for you. The interview will take place online via MS Teams.

We do not offer trial lessons, however, if you are in London already, you can arrange to visit the campus so we can show you around and tell you about the courses we offer. Please contact us by emailing us at RSE@regents.ac.uk or calling us on +44 (0) 20 7487 7477.

Our teachers are proficient speakers of English, suitably qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language. All the teachers hold the Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL and a university degree. Some have the Cambridge DELTA and/or a Master’s in TESOL/Applied Linguistics. Our teachers come from various backgrounds and all of them have gone through Regent’s recruitment process in order to teach at Regent’s School of English.

If you will need a visa, then we suggest applying for your English course at least a month in advance. The more time you allow yourself to arrange the paperwork the better – you don’t want to feel rushed and under pressure waiting for your visa to be granted. 

Our busiest period is normally the Summer and early Autumn – we'd recommend enrolling before this time. 

We usually don’t recommend applying with such short notice. However, if you need to do this, our team will do all they can to give priority to your application.

Our minimum course duration is two weeks.

The maximum number of students in each class is 15.

The number of hours you learn depends on your course.

General English Course

15 hours of English lessons per week:

• 9:15 to 12:30, with a 15-minute break 

Intensive English Course

21 hours of English language lessons per week: 

• Morning classes: Monday to Friday, 9:30 to 12:30
• Afternoon classes: Monday to Thursday, 13:30 to 15:00

At Regent’s School of English we offer the following activities year-round:

• Weekly Conversation Club so you can practise speaking and make friends from all over the world
• Friday afternoon trip – each week there is a London trip/tour and we will be taking you to various places of interests, e.g. museums, galleries, London walks etc.

Additionally, if your course with us takes place between September and April, you will have access to all the activities organised by the wider university: sports activities, guest lectures and events, social activities and student parties.

You need to bring the following:

• Your original passport and visa
• Your boarding pass (if you are a non-visa national and there is no visa/stamp in your passport)
• A notebook and pen
• A smartphone/tablet or laptop so you can log in to your Regent’s account and access MS Teams

All course materials are provided. These may be coursebooks, and/or handouts, and/or electronic materials.

If you have attended at least 75% of the course, you will receive a certificate of attendance. The certificate will be emailed to you once you have completed the course.

Once you have been accepted on the course, we will send you an online payment link (Flywire). You can pay by credit/debit card or do a bank transfer using the Flywire link. Flywire is the only payment method that is accepted. Please note a full payment is required to secure a place on the course and in accommodation.

Our weekly course fees depend on the course length. Please go to the course booking form to calculate the total fees for your chosen course.

You can postpone or defer the start date of your English course provided you have given us a sufficient notice. For more information on refunds and cancellations please read our Terms and Conditions.

The minimum level in our group courses is A2 (pre-intermediate). For complete beginners we can offer private tuition. We can also arrange a tailor-made beginner’s course for a closed group of students. Please contact us by emailing us at RSE@regents.ac.uk or calling us on +44 (0) 20 7487 7477.

General English as well as Intensive English help you improve all four language skills, that is speaking, listening, reading and writing, on top of that you’ll also learn new vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. The main difference between the two are the total tuition hours. When joining an Intensive English course, you will be having 21 hours of English lessons a week. The more hours you learn the better results you might expect, as you devote a significantly more effort and energy into improving your English. The Intensive Course is ideal for people who are in London for a short time only, or for those who want to improve their English really fast. 

All our courses are available at C2 (proficiency) level.

Moving levels depends on your current English level as well as your enthusiasm and dedication to learning English. It takes, on average, a minimum of 12 weeks to improve by a level (1 point). 

Our General English + IELTS is suitable for students who are planning to take IELTS Academic (for any purpose, e.g., future studies, work etc).

Our pre-sessional English course is designed specifically for students who are planning to study for a degree at Regent’s University London.

On Friday afternoons you can have free time or participate in extra-curricular activities – from walking tours of London’s sights to our informal Conversation Club.
