Director Psychotherapy and Counselling

Professional Biography

Professor Simon Carrington is the Director Psychotherapy and Counselling with leadership over the content and delivery of the postgraduate level psychotherapy training, accredited by the UKCP. He also has oversight of content for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DPsych).

Simon gained his PhD from the Department of Pharmacy, University of Bath. He was a lecturer at University of Bradford and then principal Lecturer at Kingston University. Simon was involved with pharmacy course development and accreditation and was Course Director for MPharm Pharmacy. As an active research supervisor, he guided a number of doctoral students to successful completions.

Simon moved to the independent higher education sector to apply his experience of clinical programme development and delivery to psychotherapy.  He was Head of Academic Governance, Quality Assurance and Registry at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, an organisation unique within the NHS in designing and delivering its own postgraduate degree programmes. Simon was an important link between the Trust and validating university partners. He also led on the design, accreditation and delivery of a CPD programme to allow teaching staff to achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

Simon has an ongoing interests in the delivery of mid-career postgraduate education and diversity in psychotherapy training. He has delivered conference presentation on the utility of the professional doctorate.
