Maria received her MA in Psychotherapy at Regent’s in 1995. After graduating, she lectured at City University until 1998 when she took up the position of Director of the Master’s Programme in Psychotherapy, then became Head of School and later Senior Research Fellow at Regent’s. She was Founder of the Centre for Relational Studies and Psychological Wellbeing as well as the Journal of Psychological Therapies, which she edited until 2020.

Maria has edited two internationally recognised books – The Therapeutic Frame in the Clinical Context: Integrative Perspectives and Sexual Attraction in Therapy: Clinical Perspectives on Moving Beyond the Taboo – and co-authored a third, Integrative Theory And Practice In Psychological Therapies: New Directions. She continues to supervise PhD students at Regent’s University London.
