Staff and students from Regent's are exhibiting work in the Knapp Gallery as part of the annual Regent's Open exhibition. The exhibition opened on 7 March 2024 and runs until 10 May 2024.
Dr Nadja Stamselberg, Knapp Gallery Curator and Lecturer in Art History and Cultural Studies, led the curation and delivery of the exhibition.
She said: "After a few years' break due to the pandemic, Regent's Open is back – with works from Regent's staff, students and alumni – showcasing diverse and creative practice.
The exhibition was curated with the help of first year BA (Hons) Art History students as a part of their Industry & Enterprise module. They helped with the selection process and the layout of the works."
Artist Kate Robotham has two works in the exhibition, In anticipation of Spring One and Three. Kate studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, and since graduating in 2013 has exhibited widely including at the Battersea Affordable Art fair, the Truman Breweries and further afield including Belgium and China. She is represented by a gallery in south London and had her first London solo exhibition last year. Her work is in several private collections, and she creates her work in her east London based studio.
In anticipation of Spring One and Three are part of a triptych inspired by photography in Kew Gardens in London. The work draws on the sheer abundance of life, the riotous, joyous colour and the endless variety in sizes and shapes in the natural world. The paintings celebrate nature, the source of all life, in all its glory, expressing this in an explosion of contrasting colours and joyful brush strokes. It's a great fit for an exhibition at Regent's, which is also in the heart of a Royal park.
Kate said, “I am excited to have the opportunity to showcase my works in the beautiful setting of the Knapp Gallery alongside so many other talented artists. As my work is so inspired by nature, it feels very appropriate for my paintings to be shown in the heart of one of London’s most beautiful parks!"
The exhibition opened with a private view on Thursday 7 March 2023. Nadja said: "It was great to see so many people there: artists, their guests and members of the community. The works look very different in a gallery setting and the thoughtful curation enhanced them."
You can see the Regent's Open exhibition in the Knapp Gallery until 10 May 2023.
