Best outdoor space: Regent’s campus wins best in show

The Regent’s University London campus has been named Best Outdoor Space at the third annual CN Academic Venue Awards, which recognises the impact academic venues hold in the UK events landscape.

Set in the heart of royal Regent’s Park, the University’s campus consists of 11 acres of private gardens and mellow red-brick buildings, making it a quiet, secluded haven.

Rachel Azzopardi, Head of Catering and Events, said: 'Every day Regent’s staff, students and visitors are fortunate to work, study and host events on our beautiful, historic grounds. Winning the Best Outdoor Space award emphasises just how unique our surroundings are, and recognises the hard work and success of our innovative events team.'

The spacious Tuke Lawns are a popular outdoor venue for weddings, corporate events and activations – and in the past have played host to events from London Fashion Week, Google and Ralph Lauren. The lawns are also the venue of prominent events on the University’s own calendar, including annual fashion showcases by Regent’s design students.

Regent’s campus was designed by architect Basil Champneys in the Queen Anne style, and occupies the site of the South Villa, drawn up by royal architect John Nash in 1818. The campus features mature gardens and seasonal blooms, including 30,000 roses of 400 varieties.

Later additions include the Tate Library – named for the founder of London's Tate Gallery – and the dome of the Astronomical Observatory, which remains in place despite extensive damage to most buildings in the Second World War.

The third edition of the award took place at the Victory Services Club, Marble Arch, and accompanied a conference. Judges included Stacy Thompson (Knowledge Transfer Network), Ann Snoep (Inntel) and Lucy Chalk (BCD Meetings and Events).

Regent’s Conferences and Events can provide full event planning and catering services, and can provide access to lecture halls, outdoor AV technology and marquees. Guests enjoy easy access to Baker Street Station and central London. To book an event, visit www.regentsevents.co.uk
