Fashion students complete live industry project with Studio Johannes Warnke

Regent’s second year Fashion Design students designed a six-outfit collection and produced two completed outfits as part of their live industry project with Studio Johannes Warnke.

Johannes Warnke is a multidisciplinary fashion designer whose pieces have been worn by Björk, Grimes, Rina Sawayama, Lady Gaga, and Post Malone. His collections are defined by hand-dyed cruelty-free silk, up-cycled materials, structural draping, elaborate textile techniques and couture finishings. We see his work featured on the covers of Vogue China and the Evening Standard and in multiple publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, L’Officiel, Numéro, and Wonderland.

In this live industry project, Regent’s students were asked to imagine themselves as a building and to explore this through research, design, presentation, and ambience. They were encouraged to find an architectural style that appeals to their aesthetic interests, and to explore both exterior and interior details while considering furnishings and objects within their final design work.

Second-year student Ivanna Diadyk  appreciated the challenge of the live project and the insight it gave into Johannes’ creative thought process. She said: ‘Working on a collaborative project with Studio Johannes Warnke was a very rewarding experience. Johannes shared his design process which helped me to have a better understanding of the evolution from my idea to the finished design. Moreover, this project forced me to experiment more with materials and shapes, which expanded the range of ideas and possibilities for design creating process.’

Johannes Warnke said: ‘It was wonderful to get to discover the student's creative universes and to see them grow and refine their distinctive aesthetics. They transformed their architectural research and strengths into very personal, conceptual outcomes.’
