Lecturers present at conference on online learning

Film, Media and Performance academics Michael Peel and Ted Wilkes recently presented on Regent's transition to remote teaching at a conference held by the Film School Network.

They discussed models of best practice with colleagues from around the world, with Peel participating in a roundtable on how to deliver a practical course in an online space. He said:

'It’s wonderful to be able to share our experience and best practice with other prestigious institutions and individuals, it’s been a challenging year for everyone but it’s great to see the responses people have taken and even to have the benefits of strange situation highlighted and discussed.'

The annual event held earlier this month saw the pair share a digital stage with academics from the Warsaw Film School (Poland), Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf – FUBKW (Germany) and Oberlin College (USA).

Wilkes, returning to the conference for the second time, joined panels on how to foster creativity in a virtual learning environment and how students might better express their responses to ‘unfilmable’ situations.

He said that, 'although the pandemic is the immediate hurdle that we have to overcome, there is also the rapidly approaching threat of Brexit. It is therefore great to be involved with such a strong partnership with colleagues and friends in Europe, to share best practice across the continent and facilitate further mutual cooperation.'

During the conference, the pair also shared a screening of Royal Television Society award winning film Moksha, created by Jithin Majeed, a Regent's alumnus.
