Marta Ortega, Regent’s alumna and daughter of Zara founder, Amancio Ortega, has been appointed chairwoman of Inditex – whose brands include Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Pull&Bear and Stradivarius.
In 2006, Marta studied BA International Business at Regent’s European Business School. After graduating, she began her career with Inditex, working as a sales assistant in Zara and Bershka stores across London.
Regent’s Assistant Professor of International Business, Alan Sitkin, who also taught Marta at the time, said: ‘I would like to congratulate Marta on her new appointment. Having taught Marta Business French in her third year at Regent's European Business School, she was always hard-working and possessed a strong business sense. Add to this her overtly internationalist outlook, and it's obvious that Zara is in excellent hands for the generation to come!’
Marta has been with Inditex for 15 years and will take over as Chair from 1 April 2022, heading the biggest high street fashion group in the world – with over 7,000 stores in 93 markets worldwide.
We are delighted for Marta and all that she has achieved. We have no doubt that our students will be inspired by her career path and accomplishments, and we look to her as a brilliant example of how Regent's can continue to develop tomorrow's global leaders.
