Regent’s alumna Siân Bliss has been commissioned by Sloane Stanley to create a painting for Chelsea Fire Station.
Since 2017, Sloane Stanley has been supporting local artists by showcasing their work on the King’s Road. The 30 x 4 metre canvas celebrates a new artist every three months. Sloane Stanley said: “This community initiative has been a great success with the murals being loved by locals and visitors alike.”
Siân, a graduate of BA (Hons) Acting and World Theatre in 2013, further honed her artistic skills through a master’s degree in Experimental Animation at The California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles, supported by a scholarship provided by Disney’s granddaughter, Michelle Lund.
It is since returning to her hometown of London in 2021 that she has melded her passion for performance with visual art, carving out her unique niche in the creative realm. Now firmly rooted here, Siân has flourished in the realm of large-scale public artworks, enriching community spaces, stadiums, and beyond with her distinctive vision and boundless creativity.
For this project, Siân pitched the idea of celebrating “the joy of food and picnicking”, a testament to the cafés and restaurants in the local area. Included in the mural is a quote born from her time at Regent’s, when Siân and her friends would ask the all-important question between classes: “Do we have time for a cakey biscuity thing?”
Siân has a number of projects lined up for the future, including an animation for the 90th anniversary of the Isokon Building in Belsize Park.
