Regent's alumnus wins Fashion Star Arabia

Ilyes Ouali, an alumnus of Regent’s BA Fashion Design, has won Fashion Star Arabia overnight, a television show where twelve fashion designers from different parts of the Arab world compete for the much-coveted title and the chance to create a fashion line for one of the region’s biggest retailers.

Now in its fourth season, the show is judged by Hollywood red carpet designer Reem Acra, fashion expert Nadim Chammas and Tunisian top model and actress Rym Breidy.

Algerian born Ouali graduated from Regent’s in 2018, and was already known for his love of sequins and feathers, said his personal tutor and now Head of Programmes for Fashion and Design, Mark Eley.

‘Ilyes was the most hardworking student and at every moment of the year he was always present in the studio. He is so suited to become Fashion Star Arabia winner and has a personality that will take him very far.

‘We are so proud that a Regent’s University London Student can make an impression so soon after graduating in the international fashion scene.

‘He was the first student I met when I arrived at Regent’s. It was middle of the summer holidays and he was sticking sequins onto to something - I think it was an oversized belt buckle - with no other students around. He knew that I question his aesthetic being on the tacky/kitsch side but he didn’t falter and now he owns it and with this win validates it. I am very proud for him and it couldn’t come to a nicer person.

‘Ilyes, go on, take on the world with your diamanté and glitter and make it a more cheerful place. I’m so happy for you with this win on Fashion Star Arabia, you deserve it.’
