Regent's closes the gender pay gap

A new report examining the gender pay gap in higher education has found that Regent's University London is a 'hero' in the ongoing battle for pay equity.

The comprehensive research, undertaken by the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) with support from Durham University, delves into the persistent pay gap between genders within the higher education sector. In a unique institution-by-institution analysis, the report found that disparities persist, with some institutions leading the way towards gender pay equity, while others still have a long way to go.

Regent's University London is leading the way. In the report, Regent's is listed as one of only five institutions to have achieved a median gender pay gap of 0 per cent.

Valerie De Saegher, Director of Human Resources at Regent's, said:

"We are incredibly proud at Regent’s University London to have a median gender pay gap of 0, leading the way in the higher education sector. To demonstrate our continued commitment to gender equality we’ve also launched our equal parental leave in September 2023 and can’t wait to see the additional impact it will have on our gender equity."

Professor Geoff Smith, Vice-Chancellor & CEO at Regent's, said:

"This is an outcome that everyone in the Regent’s community can be proud of. We’re serious about equality being fundamental to our organisational culture and purpose. But there’s always more to do and the work continues."

The report found that the median gender pay gap across the sector stands at 11.9 per cent, outperforming the broader UK average of 14.4 per cent. The report also predicated that on average, the higher education sector will take 14 years to close its gender pay gap, compared to 18 years for all UK employment sectors.
