Regent’s Fashion Design students collaborate with Georgia Hardinge (GH) fashion

Regent’s Year 2 BA (Hons) Fashion Design students recently completed a collaborative design project with prestigious fashion label, Georgia Hardinge.

In January, the students were briefed by Annabel Dowsing, the Georgia Hardinge Studio Manager, to design a six-outfit collection and produce one completed outfit that encapsulated the GH brand aesthetic. The Georgia Hardinge brand draws upon inspirations from architecture and sculpture, with a key focus on sustainability and wearability.

During the project, the students designed, toiled (made a prototype outfit in calico material) and manufactured their collections all whilst working remotely from home. In March, the students received industry feedback on their designs from Annabel at the 'Toile Critique' and then they were able to go away and make changes. Before completing their final designs and presenting them to Annabel at the end of term showcase on 6 May.

Steven Dell, Assistant Professor at Regent’s, said: ‘Live industry projects give students a taste of what it feels like to be working for an international fashion designer. It’s not only important for students to hear constructive criticism, but we as fashion educators must retain a close relationship between the university learning experience and its relevance to what is a continually changing industry both in practice and demands. The framework we teach at Regent’s equips students with essential skills and tools to use beyond university to pursue their own goals and entrepreneurial ambitions.

Steven continued: ‘I wish to thank Annabel Dowsing and Georgia Hardinge for their time, invaluable industry insights and generous support offered throughout this very exciting industry project.’

With close connections to the fashion industry, Regent’s students are uniquely positioned to enter the world of work with practical and relevant fashion experience. If you’d like to find out more about the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course, please click here.
