Designs by Rozhin Elahi shortlisted for the Global Design Graduate Show 2022 in collaboration with GUCCI

Regent's graduate collection shortlisted for Global Design Graduate Show award

Rozhin Elahi, a Regent's alumna who graduated from the BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Marketing course in 2022, has been shortlisted for an award as part of this year's Global Design Graduate Show.

Her graduate collection, The Ultimate Symbol Of Beauty, plays with a hybrid of feminine and contemporary aesthetics, joyous shapes and voluminous silhouettes. The title of the collection originates from the princess of Qajar, who was both a symbol of beauty and a powerful force for progressing women's rights in 19th century Iran.

It's this mix of femininity and power that Rozhin describes in her work has a core theme. Commenting on the collection, she said: 'It has always been important to me to make women feel powerful while wearing my designs. To me, it's constantly about the confidence and the comfort that a garment gives.

When I'm designing, I always look for details that transform the garment in a unique way. Whether it's a fitted dress or a simple garment, I always like to play with proportion and add exciting elements within the clothing.

'I'm a very 3D person. I like to play with the fabric on the mannequin and create the desired shape right away by draping. It's the experimentation with the placement of the fabric that gives me different ideas. Transforming my 2D design into 3D and giving life to them gives me joy which motivates me even more to get to my desired design.'

Whilst at Regent's, Rozhin was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Commendation Award and Dean's List Award, as well as being a key representative for Regent's Open Days and other University events.

Steven Dell, Course Leader on BA (Hons) Fashion Design at Regent's, said: 'Congratulations! I'm so pleased to hear Rozhin has been shortlisted for Global Design Challenge in collaboration with GUCCI competition. A real testament to Rozhin’s creativity and contemporary vision.'
