Regent’s is awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023

Regent’s has been awarded Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Silver means that the student experience and student outcomes are typically very high quality at the University.

In TEF 2019, Regent’s was awarded Bronze. This is an impressive improvement in a period where the TEF bar has been raised and a new ‘requires improvement’ category introduced. It’s also a period that includes the challenging time during the coronavirus pandemic where teaching was forced to move online.

The outcomes of the TEF 2023 were published by the Office for Students (OfS) this morning. Overall, the TEF panel found that Regent’s University London’s student experience and student outcomes are typically of very high quality and that some features are outstanding.

In its feedback, the TEF panel said that: ‘The provider has embedded very high quality teaching, feedback and assessment practices that are effective in supporting its students’ learning, progression, and attainment.’

They highlighted the focused and coherent strategy to improve our teaching and learning, our outstanding support for students (particularly disabled students), our strong culture of teaching excellence and development of academics, our excellent support for mental health and wellbeing, and the strong feeling of belonging among students.

Professor Geoff Smith, Vice-Chancellor & CEO, said:

“The Silver rating is a testament to the investment and dedication we’re putting into teaching excellence – and a recognition of the transformation journey Regent's is on. The TEF panel clearly recognises the culture of continuous improvement and investment we have created. We are a student-centred, teaching-focused university – and proud of it. The value students’ put on this came through in a glowing student submission and in excellent NSS scores this year. Everyone in our Regent’s community can be proud of this outcome.”
