Regent’s lecturer receives award for film on police brutality

Regent’s Lecturer in Directing, Dr Ken Fero, has received a Special Jury Award in the category Queens World Truth Seeker: Feature Film for his documentary Ultraviolence at the Queens World Film Festival in New York.

The annual festival ran for 11 days, featuring 198 films from 33 nations around the world. Ken Fero’s Ultraviolence was screened on 1 July alongside other award-winning films such as Before I die by Iker Esteibarlanda and 1681 by Luis Ismael. Katha Cato director of QWFF said: "The Jury decided to award Ken the Truth Seeker Award. We have only done that once before and feel that it is warranted here. The film sits in a category of its own and deserves special recognition. The pursuit of the unflinching truthful reflection of our world is precious."

Ultraviolence was screened at the Queens World Film Festival on 1 July and had a cinema run at BFI Southbank London in June and July. It is now available exclusively on BFI Player and continues to be well received by critics, with Peter Bradshaw from the Guardian recently giving it a 5-star review.

Dr Ken Fero said: "I am pleased the film is getting the recognition it deserves. We are also now building on this success, with Regent’s film students employed on my current productions giving them valuable industry experience and profile."

Please join us in congratulating Dr Ken Fero on his achievement. Find out more about Ultraviolence here
