Dr Ken Fero, Regent’s Lecturer in Film & Screen, has scooped another accolade for his film Ultraviolence, which has won a Special Audience Award at the November Arbetar Film Festival in Malmö, Sweden.
Present at the event, which took place at the Panora Cinema, was veteran filmmaker Madubuko Diakité, who commented: ‘I would like to thank Ken very much for this brilliant film. I have made films about human rights issues in Sweden and the US, and I have never seen anything as powerful as Ultraviolence.’
Talat Bhat, Arbertar Film Festival organiser, activist and filmmaker at RåFILM has said: ‘Ultraviolence was immensely popular and won a ‘Special Audience Award’. RåFILM as such does not usually distribute awards to films shown at the festival. This was a special instance of the audience making a popular award which we are happy to support.’
Regent’s University London graduate, Felicia Holst, who worked on the film and was also present said: ‘Getting to see Ultraviolence on the big screen was great. I remember starting to assist with the post-production during my first year at Regent’s and now, three years later, I saw the final product in a live setting. It was amazing!’
Dr Fero, who received the award in person, said: ‘It is a real honour to receive the Audience Award – the reaction following the screening was phenomenal. I am also pleased that our students at Regent’s are able to benefit from the outcome of opportunities that they took up when they joined the production, which took place in parallel to their studies.’
