It’s another excellent result for Regent’s University London in the National Student Survey (NSS). 90.6% of final year undergraduate students at Regent's said that their course had developed the knowledge and skills they think they’ll need for the future (compared to only 82% across the sector). The same percentage said that teaching staff at Regent’s make the subject engaging, scoring the university as the best in England among first degree students in both questions.
Regent’s also comes out top for student voice. 91.9% of students said they have the right opportunities to feedback on their course, ranking the University 1st in London and England and 12 points above the sector average.
With over 130 different nationalities on campus, Regent’s is home to an incredibly diverse group of students. This plays a key role in how we approach learning and teaching and how we design our support and community services. The fact that 93.9% of students felt free to express their ideas, opinions, and beliefs – ranking Regent’s 1st in London and 2nd in England for freedom of speech – shows the supportive environment the University provides.
Active learning and authentic assessment
The best scores for Regent’s underline its reputation as a teaching-intensive, student-centred university. 93.4% of Regent’s students said their tutors are good at explaining things, and 92.3% said teaching staff had done well in supporting their learning.
The result reflects Regent’s distinct approach to teaching which allows students to learn by doing, working with peers as well as industry on real-world projects and problems.
Regent’s also ranks 1st in London and 4th in England for how often feedback helps students improve their work. Using authentic assessments, the university doesn’t just test the knowledge students have acquired but also their ability to apply it in contexts similar to those they’ll encounter in their careers.
Professor Geoff Smith, Vice-Chancellor & CEO, said:
“At Regent’s, we want our students to succeed not just at university but in life. We’re on a mission to reimagine education for a new generation, in a new world. That’s why we put all our efforts into cultivating opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and prepare for the career – and life – that awaits them beyond our campus. As a university, we’re on a journey to deliver on this, but the results of the NSS 2023 show that we’re perhaps a bit closer to our goal than we dared hope.”
