Students compete in the IBM Universities Business Challenge

The Universities Business Challenge 2019 was recently held at Regent's University London, with teams competing from across the country.

The Undergraduate Team, Pink Zebra, were just edged out from the IBM Universities Business Challenge final. Although the team demonstrated and performed strongly in their semi-final trading rounds, the competition was challenging and the team finished in 6th position.

The team, lead by Shwet Agarwal with Alexandre Pouliquen, Imogen Mohr and Nils Maartman (all BA Global Management students) did us proud. From the theme of 'Business Enterprise' the team worked diligently together – reviewing risks and opportunities – and presented their forecast review with clarity. The London regional semi-final was eventually won by Southampton University. Semi-finalist teams included: University of East Anglia, Liverpool University (two teams), Nottingham Trent University (two teams), Regent’s University London, Lincoln University and Lancaster University.

In the Global Masters Final, Regent’s postgraduate team Dynamo only just missed out on the trophy – finishing in 5th position. Only 78 points separated the top five teams. Team Dynamo should be commended on their team performance. They demonstrated tremendous fighting team spirit, creativity, resilient and team efforts throughout the final. The simulation scenario was based on business start-up social enterprise ventures and processes. The home team was led by Lisa Lapidge (MA Management) with Martina Merelli (MA Management), Fatma (MA Management), Charles Dawson (MA International Business) and Miguel Raskosky (MA International Business).

The inaugural Global Masters 2019 final was won by Loughborough University. Finalist teams at Regent’s included: Loughborough University (two teams), Dundee University, Regent’s University London, Cambridge University, University of East Anglia and De Montford University (two teams). The faculty advisor for both the home teams is Dr Eric CK Chan.
