Wet and rainy conditions didn’t stop the Regent’s polo teams this weekend, who placed second and fourth in their respective divisions at the Schools and Universities Polo Association’s (SUPA) Summer National Championships.
Held at Offchurch Bury Polo Club from Friday 7 - Sunday 9 June, the lower intermediate team of Georgia Pask, Ben Duckworth, Kitty James and Louis Ronksley - after being unexpectedly bumped up by one division - overcame the odds to finish in second place overall, and captain and Polo Scholar, Georgie Pask, couldn’t be prouder.
‘I've loved every moment of captaining the team, and I’m very proud of this weekend's achievement – especially since the team played in a category above where they should have been placed!
‘The team can go into the next competition on a high and confidently build on this success. When they competed at their assigned level earlier this year, at the Royal Country of Berkshire University Challenge, they came first overall.’
The beginner team of Cristianne Sanjines, Alice Von Wedel and Aleksei Latypov, despite only being assembled quite late on, worked incredibly well together to finish in fourth place out of 21 teams.
‘The sky's the limit for these players. Regent's polo is growing, from strength to strength, and I have no doubt that the momentum will continue after I leave,' said Pask.
Melissa Steingass, Sports and Activities Officer, added: ‘These were great results from our two teams, especially from our intermediate players who were playing a higher division from winter nationals in February. This shows some great progress and commitment from all our players, and is a credit to all the hard work they have put in this season.’
