Maryam Alhubaishi has been shortlisted for this year’s CMI Student of the Year Award, which recognises learners who have demonstrated a positive impact on their own professional development and academic studies.
Maryam, a graduate of the MA Luxury Brand Management programme, said that the award showcases her skills in a professional context.
‘Being shortlisted expresses my unique skillset, and my ability to translate academic outcomes to everyday life. I worked with a number of British brands as part of the degree, and I gained a set of skills that I can use across a range of luxury businesses,’ she said.
Many Postgraduate Business & Management students can choose to graduate with two qualifications: their Regent’s programme, and an additional CMI award in strategic management and leadership.
The dual qualification allows them to blend theory with practice, and gain a relevant, sustainable set of skills for their careers.
‘There’s book smart and street smart, and I learned to practice both skills and bridge them together,’ says Maryam. ‘I’ve gained a current, and transferable set of skills that I can keep developing as market demands and technology continue to evolve.’
Dr Eric CK Chan, Regent’s Programme Director and CMI Chartered Fellow, said: 'I am extremely proud that Maryam was shortlisted among the thousands of CMI learners nationally and internationally. Her achievement shown a high level of academic achievement as well as professional development in management and leadership.
‘This type of learning and development is an integral part of our programme's aim to develop tomorrow's global leaders,' he finished.
Maryam was recognised by CMI last year when she won the Award of Excellence as the best student in her cohort.
About the awards
The CMI shortlist celebrates learners who have applied the theory they’ve learned in the classroom. It also recognises those who have demonstrated:
• outstanding academic achievement
• leadership capabilities
• her ability to make a positive impact in the Regent’s community.
The CMI shortlist included students from the University of Leicester’s School of Business and Scotland’s West College.
The winner was announced last month at the CMI Partner Conference and Awards at the Vox in Birmingham, and was presented by Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex GCVO.
