Professor joins British Psychological Society climate steering group

Professor of Counselling Psychology, Martin Milton, has recently been invited to join the British Psychological Society Steering Group on the Climate and Environmental Crisis.

The group, which was formed by the society's ethics committee, aims to promote efforts to mitigate the effects of climate and environmental disruption.

The society says that, 'Over the past few months we have all been focused on the pandemic and the recent increase in infections poses new challenges [to mental health].' It says that the pandemic 'has brought the issue of public health to the front of everyone’s attention', and changed the way we respond to the crises.

Professor Milton currently heads the Division of Counselling Psychology Working Group on Climate Change, a role in which he conducts internal audits on the contributions of counselling psychologists to environmental crises. The group has also developed a 'reference library' of useful literature.
