Psychology programme goes part time in bid for flexible learning

Future psychology professionals can now boost their skills while they’re working, thanks to a new part-time option.

As of this year, Regent’s MSc Psychology gives students the choice between full-time and part-time study, in a bid to make programmes more flexible and personalised to students’ individual schedules.

‘We consistently get outstanding results in student surveys – but we also heard one thing loud and clear: students wanted a part-time study option. For some students, taking an accredited programme in one year can be quite demanding. Part-time study gives them the freedom to work and volunteer on the side to build their skills,’ said Head of Programmes Professor Neil Martin, who also validated the programme.

The MSc Psychology covers the main branches of the field, including biological, cognitive and developmental psychology, historical issues, and research methods. Students take a mix of assessments to apply their knowledge in real-world settings, and become grounded in scientific thinking.

‘They also have access to a dedicated psychology laboratory and cubicles, a comprehensive test library, subscriptions to over 700 psychology and related journals and psychophysiology equipment that allows them to measure brain activity and galvanic skin response, among other behaviours.’

The programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), and students gain Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).

As a conversion programme, it allows students without a background in psychology to get a grounding in the field. It’s also the necessary first step to further Postgraduate training in psychology which would lead to practitioner status.
