Regent’s BA (Hons) Film & Screen graduates last week exhibited their films in a showcase at Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York.
The festival, an international, BAFTA-qualifying short film festival, takes place annually in York, UK, at the beginning of November. It celebrates independent film from around the world, and is an outlet for supporting and championing filmmaking.
Alumnus Jithin Majeed, who directed the Royal Television Society award-winning Moksha, said:
'It was an incredible honour to be a part of Regent's showcase at the renowned Aesthetica Short Film Festival. Screening my work alongside other curated films for the festival's tenth anniversary felt particularly special. A huge thank you to the festival organisers and my lecturers who provided me with this platform. This is, without doubt, a career highlight for me personally.'
Ted Wilkes, Screenwriter and Lecturer, said:
'It was amazing to chat to our graduates about what they have been up to after leaving us and the successes that they have had! They still have fond memories of the time they spent working on their final year films. I’m hoping that our students (and those from other institutions) got a lot out of the session.’
As well as the graduate film showcase, Regent’s film production academics hosted sessions with prominent experts.
Mike Peel, Senior Lecturer, hosted an interview with BAFTA-winning film editor, Kristina Hetherington, who presented a masterclass on the role of the editor. He said that:
‘It was wonderful to talk to Kristina about her career, her approach to her work, and her advice for up-and-coming student filmmakers.'
‘It was also great to watch our students’ films and talk to them about their experience, their work and their memories of studying at Regent's. So thrilled that their films got to be part of one of the UK's leading Film Festivals - the best is yet to come from them, I'm sure.’
