Regent’s University London will hold its fifth Youth Model United Nations Conference (MUN) on Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July, inviting school students onto campus to take part in organised debates focusing on global challenges.
Since the 1950s, Model United Nations (Model UN) Conferences have spread internationally and have now become a global phenomenon. Student participants will engage in a high value, highly interactive, interdisciplinary and intercultural experience with other students from all across London.
They will not only immerse themselves in another country, political system and culture, but they will be able to constructively discuss real world dilemmas with their peers and collectively develop realistic solutions. Additionally, they will gain valuable experience and skills in leadership, teamwork, interpersonal communication, diplomacy, public speaking, research, and negotiation.
As part of Regent's extended public benefit commitment to widen participation in the Higher Education that we provide, we are very proud to announce that many of the students taking part will be representatives from schools across the local boroughs.
The simulation works by assigning participants a UN Member state, with each of them assuming the role of a diplomat from that country. They must represent the views and interests of that country, instead of their own personal opinions.
Participants will be assigned a committee, research the committee topics, discover the views, values and positions of their assigned country on the topics, and negotiate with other participants to find realistic solutions.
