Regent’s University London has had a second consecutive impressive year in the National Student Survey (NSS), recording an overall satisfaction rate of 86%, a 2.5% increase from 2017, which raises Regent’s 56 places in the overall ranking to joint 36th, and joint 7th out of London universities.
To compare the results against the benchmarks set by the OfS, Regent’s rises to 20th in the UK and 4th in London. Overall, Regent’s scored above benchmark in six out of nine survey sections, which bodes well for the University’s entry into the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) next year.
Only the second year that Regent’s has taken part in the survey, two programmes recorded particularly high results in overall satisfaction: 100% in BA Film, TV & Media Production, and 91.67% in BSc Psychology. The high levels of satisfaction in BA Film, TV & Media Production are indisputable, with the programme performing above average on almost every question and recording high results across the board.

“The response from students is testament to the hard work of the team here offering close personal attention to the artistic ambitions of our students. The results are not just seen in NSS results but in the consistently excellent awards that our students win at international film competitions.”
Regent’s prides itself on providing students with a supportive, personal environment with small class sizes and individual attention. In turn, this fosters the ‘family feel’ of Regent’s, evident in 82% satisfaction with the community of the University – well above the national average of 76.6%.
Students feel well supported and heard; at 80.3% satisfaction for academic support, students outlined that they had been able to contact staff when they needed to, had received sufficient advice and guidance in relation to their chosen course, and good advice was available when they needed to make study choices on their course.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Aldwyn Cooper said. “We are delighted with our results for 2018, particularly given it is only our second year participating in the National Student Survey.
“A result of 86% overall satisfaction that is higher than the national average is certainly something of which we should be proud. Though we have a long and esteemed history as a college, Regent’s University London received Taught Degree Awarding Powers as recently as 2012, and University title in 2013, so to be competing so strongly in the NSS already is a great testament to the quality of education we deliver and the support we provide to our students.
“A result of 100% satisfaction for our colleagues in Film, Media and Performance, is a phenomenal achievement. Not least, as it is a 70% improvement on last year’s result. I think the University as a whole will join me in congratulating William and his team. It is only too clear that all of your hard work and dedication is paying off.
“We are London’s only independent and not for profit university and are always seeking to improve our student experience. This last year saw the opening of the Hive, providing an incubator space for start-ups, which, given the entrepreneurial nature of our students, has been a very welcome and sought-after addition, and we will continue to invest our profits in our students and their experience.
“It is particularly satisfying that 82% of our students feel part of a real learning community, well above our OfS benchmark of 79% and an average sector score of 80 per cent.
