Sign up for sport at Regent's

The start of a new academic year is an excellent opportunity for students to get involved with the many sports on offer at Regent’s.

There are five competitive teams at Regent's – men’s football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, mixed volleyball and polo. Trials are underway, and students are being encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to take part in as many training sessions as they can before competitive fixtures begin later in the year.

'Getting involved with sports at Regent's is such a great way of becoming a part of the University’s wider community,' says Mel Steingass, Regent’s Sports and Activities Officer. 'It’s also a really great way of meeting students from other courses and making a different set of friends.'

Mel is keen to stress that all students can sign up for any of the sports, even those who have no previous experience.

'I love seeing students who have never played before go on to be an ambassador for the University in competitive matches. For example, we have two polo teams – beginner and intermediate – so there are opportunities even if you've never picked up a mallet before.'

All teams have regular training sessions and play inter-university matches as part of the London Universities Sport Leagues, British Universities & Colleges Sport or the Schools & Universities Polo Association.

Mel says: 'That’s one of the fantastic things about playing sport at Regent’s - the opportunity of getting to know different parts of London when travelling to compete against other universities.

'Getting involved in sport at Regent’s is also a great way of keeping fit and relieving stress between lectures.'

There are also plans to introduce more sports at Regent’s over the coming months including women’s football and tennis. To sign up for any of the teams or suggest a new sport, visit the Student Hub. There's more information on sport at Regents on Twitter and Instagram at @regentsunisport.

Also on offer at Regent's are Be Active fitness sessions - beginner-friendly activities which are a great way of improving your physical health and well being on campus.

Classes are scheduled flexibly around your academic timetable and give you a calming social space between lectures.

'We want to help you move, have fun, de-stress and make new friends while on campus,' adds Mel.

'Whether it’s zumba, yoga or cardio tennis, we want to promote a positive approach to engaging with fitness and encourage beginners to give sports a go.'

All Be Active classes are free for students and there is no commitment or membership. Sessions take place in Regent’s beautiful Wellbeing Studio as well as other locations around the campus.
