Living in nine countries has meant Paul Stausberg has had a truly international life. And with the help of a Regent’s award, this BA (Hons) International Business student is hoping to push his global outlook even further.
Born in Sweden, with German heritage who grew up in Norway, Paul is fluent in several languages and currently intensively studying Spanish – the latter of which he is perfecting with study abroad semesters in Madrid and Buenos Aires.
His international outlook made him the perfect contender for the Dr Nicholas Bowen Award for Excellence, which celebrates top-performing students in academic achievement, community spirit and enterprise. These are qualities Paul has in droves – ones he's been able to foster at Regent's.
‘Growing up overseas and moving so often gave me a unique perspective, and I learnt to adapt to challenges. What's really amazing is that since Regent's is a truly international community, everyone has a similar mindset to me. I’ve made friends from all over the world and I get to network with some really bright talent every day.’
Paul has completed several internships, and some of his friends proved helpful when he took up a marketing controlling internship with Beiersdorf in Thailand:
‘My programme has taught me to be open-minded, and it also reinforced the importance of travel. I met up with some of my classmates in Bangkok, and they showed me around the city. Knowing people there helped me to understand and immerse myself in cultural differences. I used these insights at my internship.’
Family connections
Paul was introduced to Regent’s by his uncle, a graduate of European Business School. He thought the University would be a good fit for his enterprising nephew. When Paul started investigating the University, he was impressed.
‘Right away, I saw a very active community where I could meet students and teachers face-to-face – I believed I could thrive in this community. The small class sizes mean you’re able to speak to your teachers directly, and this is a great thing, as they can help you solve any problems,’ he continued.
Paul is also a business developer at Junior Enterprise Regent’s and is currently studying abroad at Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires and Centro Universitario Villanueva. He has consecutively been on the Dean’s List, was captain of the football team, and representative of his class and the student council.
