Regent’s final year BA (Hons) Interior Design and BA (Hons) Communication Design students showcased their final project work to the design world, in a special private viewing of the exhibition.
The end of year extravaganza was held at the Department Store in Brixton – a location which had actually inspired the theme of the Communication Design show, Revealed. Parallels were drawn between the structure, confidence and raw layers of the building, with the students, and how they had developed over the course of the three year programmes.
Ahead of the night, Little Greene Paint Company shortlisted three final year projects for the Little Greene Award, which this year went to interior design student Azure Lamusse for her project, ReliGIN. A space dedicated to the appreciation of gin, the scheme aims to take users onto an aromatic journey through the interior, which explores interlocking volumes, as well as the essential material for distilling: copper.
Other students took home prizes on the night, too - tutors nominated students they believe had shown the most progress and improvement this year, celebrating what they had challenged or accomplished. Winners took home Architectural Association Bookshop Gift Cards as a prize:
First year winner: Mercy Cherotich Sossion
Second year winner: Rohit Chavda
Third year winner: Victoria Caruana
Also honoured on the night were the winner and runners up of the Regent’s Interior Design Competition 2017/18, In-Between Spaces. Open internationally to pre-degree students, participants researched an ‘in-between’ space in their local community, and designed a space in which people could dwell.
Alya Hazinedaroglu, of Hisar School, took home a prize from Bloomsbury Publishing for both her and her school, for her work which had been inspired by the High Line in Manhattan – located in-between the Standard Hotel and the following street.
The evening not only showcased the hard work of final year students – Regent’s second year BA (Hons) Interior Design students designed and built the very structures which displayed the final projects, said Laoura Englezou, Course Leader of Interior Design.
“We’re really, really proud of our students and the hard work they’ve put in this year – both our final year students with their final major project, and our second year students for doing this amazing work and building the end of year exhibition.”
Mark Eley, Head of Programmes for Fashion and Design, added: “On this very special night for our final year students, we wish the graduating students every success.
“Now that they are industry ready, they can go out into this world and conquer their dreams with a toolkit that I hope we have enabled them to have. I hope within this group, we will see the future stars of the design industry.
