Professor publishes work on race, marketing and society

Our professor of Brand Strategy & Culture, Dr Jonathan Wilson, has published timely work on how race and racism is affecting marketing, business and society today.

As an Advisory Board Member of the Race in the Marketplace (RIM) network, Professor Wilson, along with academics from the UK and the USA, guest edited a special issue in the Journal of Marketing Managementaddressing the theory and practice of marketing and managing racial dynamics.

Professor Wilson tackles key trends including the impact of black popular culture, hip hop, film, comedy and social media; debates concerning appreciation versus appropriation; the use and ownership of terms that define our identities; ethnicity pay gaps and the Magical Negro trope.

Professor Wilson also touched upon the same topics in a recent interview with The NooS Blog – an online channel supporting data-driven projects and theory.
